A total of 350 national and international runners completed the 21-kilometre (km) half marathon, 10km run and a 3km fun run as part of the fourth edition of the Borneo Run Half Marathon at the Silver Jubilee Recreational Park yesterday.

Chairperson of the Borneo Run Half Marathon Pengiran Rosnani Pengiran Ali flagged off the 21km and 10km race.

The event attracted runners from Australia, Brunei, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Laos, Latvia, Malaysia, Nepal, the Netherlands, Singapore, South Africa, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, Venezuela and Vietnam.

Japanese runner Shuunichiro Hayashi, who has been participating in half marathons across the ASEAN region, said it was his first time competing in the Sultanate.

“I am very surprised by the performances of other runners as they are quite competitive. The run here is also very straight which is easy and comfortable to keep the same pace throughout the half marathon.”

While disappointed by his result as he had finished in fourth place, he aims to partake in similar events in the future, including returning to the Sultanate.
